Granddaughter,
Come, sit quietly beside me, and hear the voice of this ancient one. I have come to offer guidance and wisdom. I lived a very, very long life, sweet one, and have much experience which you may learn from. Have you a broom? Use it to sweep away all that you do not wish to reside in your home. If you are skilled, and daring, use it to fly!
I offer my black cloak, and place it about your shoulders. With it, you shall hear the ancient chant those in the past sang of me:
Here comes, here comes the Befana
She comes from the mountains in the deep of the night
Look how tired she is! All wrapped up
In snow and frost and the north wind!
Here comes, here comes the Befana!
She comes from the mountains in the deep of the night
Look how tired she is! All wrapped up
In snow and frost and the north wind!
Here comes, here comes the Befana!
Call upon me throughout the year, if you seek my wisdom or guidance.
Lovingly,
Befana
